After an amazing Grand Depart in Yorkshire on Saturday, the Tour de France‘s third stage set off from a sunny and vibrant Cambridge, reaching and ripping through London in the latter parts of yesterday afternoon. The 96 mile stage finished on the Mall after the route took the 196 riders from Cambridge, through Epping Forest and on into Britain’s capital city. The atmosphere was one of celebration, similar to that felt in 2012 as the Olympic torch was run through the UK streets; flanked by crowds of people soaked in national pride.
Our contribution to #TeamSky was big and clear, with amazing messages of support seen up in (digital out-of-home) lights, on the screens at Piccadilly Circus, owned by Storm Digital, and also on the Ocean Outdoor site which will from this day forth be known as the Tour Towers East…! (thanks Tim Bleakley for that wonderful pun). The Ocean site even appeared on the official TeamSky website’s Stage 3 gallery page. The stage was won by Marcel Kittel, after TeamSky’s Cavendish crashed out on Saturday, injuring his shoulder and ending his title dreams. Messages of support for him were seen along the route, wishing him a speedy recovery. The next stage of Le Tour begins in France on Tuesday, with the race finishing in Paris on 27th July.
